emotionaldisturbancesandtheotherisinresourcebecauseheisbehindgradelevelandandhighELLstudent.Oneof
theboysinourclassisalowtesttakerandqualifiedtotakeallofhistestsinthelearningcenterbecauseofhis
disability(spinalcancerandpossibleproblemswithshorttermmemoryloss).Oneofthegirlsintheclassstrugglesvery
badlywithanxietywhichfeedsintoherdefiance.Sheisextremelybehindgradelevel,isdealingwithalotinherhome
lifeandrevertstobabytalkwhenshedoesnotgetherway.Shestrugglestoworkindependentlyandisscaredof
takingchancesandmakingmistakeswhichisreallyhinderingherinclass.OneoftheELLboysinourclassstruggles
withprocessingandstayingontask.Hehasadifficulttimecompletingtasksinatimelymannerandfrequentlywastes
classtimemessingaroundwithoneoftheotherboysintheclass.Theotherboyheisalwaysmessingaroundwithis
alsobehindgradelevel,movedherelastyearandwasplacedinaclasslastyearwithateacherthatdidnotworkto
helphimbridgethegap.Whenheispassionateaboutatopichecanworkverywellbutwhenheisunmotivatedor
confusedhetendstowastetimewalkingaroundtheclassroom,talkingtoothers,orworkingonthingsnotrelatedto
thetopic.AnotherboyintheclasshasmoderateADHDandfrequentlydoesnottakehismedication.Hisparentsfeel
likeheisnotasmuchofhimselfwhenhetakeshismedicationsohedoesnottakethemedicationonweekends,over
breaks,orduringthesummer.Whenherememberstotakeit,itgenerallywaresoffbytheendoflunch.Anotheroneof
theboysintheclasshassevereADHDandisnotonanytypeofmedication.Hestrugglestositstill,payattention,is
constantlyblurting,talkingoutofturn,andhasdifficultlystayinginhisseatandworkingonthetaskathand.

researchitmore.Iwillshareafewfactsaboutthemeasles(questionsthatthestudentsaskedonFriday)withthe
class.
2.AftergivingstudentsmoreinformationaboutthemeaslesIwillstartbyaskingstudentstothink,pair,share,andtalk
withthepersonsittingnettothemaboutthedifferencebetweenareliablenewsarticleandanunrelaiblenewsarticle
foraboutaminute.OncestudentshavesharedouttheirthoughtsIwillwritetheirideasontheboardandwewill
discussgoodnewssourcesasaclass.
3.Iwillthenpulluptwoarticlesontheprojector(andexcerptswillbepassedouttoeachtablegrouptoreadandbreifly

andeachstudentwillreadtwoparagraphs.BetweenparagraphswewillstopandIwillcallonvolunteerstopointout
theimportantpiecesofthearticle.Wewillcontinuethisuntilwehavemadeitthroughthearticle.
6.NextIwillbringouttheworksheetfromSarahandfillitoutwiththeclass.Iwillcallonstudentstohelpmeanswer
thequestions.Ifstudentsarestrugglingtocomeupwiththeanswers,wewillreferbacktothearticlesandlookforthe
answersasaclass.
