Office Meeting

Observation April 24th 3:30pm 4:30pm (Entry 13)

Today unfortunately was the last time I will meet with Father
Winslow in regards to the Profiles in Humanity Project. I asked some
final questions about the positions in the church and who took whose
place if something was ever to happen. Basically, he is the parochus
pastor, which there is only one of. If something happens to him the
parochial vicar , or the other priest takes over.
I also had some questions in regards to the annotated
bibliography project, and what the official views of the Catholic church
were on marriage. I explained to him what the project was about, to
which he jumped out of his chair and ased me to follow him to his
office. He showed me this program he used during his studies in
college called EndNote, a bibliography citation maker that works with
Microsoft word. He explained to me how to use it and spent a good
amount of time giving me some tips and valuable information. What I
liked about this wasnt that he helped make my life easier with my
schoolwork, but rather that he took time off his busy schedule and
from what he originally intended to meet with me about just to help. It
was truly inspirational to still meet with him and leave with greater
knowledge than I planned to gain prior to the interview. This simple
thing really shows an individuals true colors. After this he gave me
three excellent sources I could use for my an bib project, along with

some verbal information about the Catholic view amongst

homosexuals, and the reasoning behind us not accepting that
particular sort of marriage in our beliefs. There was never an
expression of hate, or pity, but rather one of love, and viewing them as
no different than us, which of course besides their sexual preferences,
there isnt. It puts to shame many of the stereotypical beliefs people
have of Catholics, and I feel sorry for those who are uneducated about
the truth, because the lack of if is what causes these bad mindsets.
The Catholic Church uses to main principles to base our beliefs on, our
faith, and nature. It doesnt get more realistic and logical that what
nature tells us. The thought is that we see homosexuals as broken
individuals and that something is wrong with them, but in fact we see
all as broken; that is where being born with original sin comes from,
and where the hardships of the world take its toll on us. Our reason for
disagreeing with gay marriage in the church is simply this; marriage is
not a construct of man, but of God, so who is man to say what, and
how marriage should be? There is no hate for the government for
allowing it, but in the church, it isnt something that is allowed. I
enjoyed to the fullest my experience shadowing and interviewing
Father Winslow, and hopefully in future endeavors I can take as much
from others as I did from him.
