Introduction
The Keystone Library Media Center is located within Keystone Middle School in the
small city of Winterbourne, Arkansas. The library media center serves a school
population consisting of students, faculty, and staff. Among the school population,
The Keystone Middle School is comprised of approximately 1100 students which range
from fifth through eighth grades.
The print collection of the library media center seeks to provide a substantial amount
of print and digital resources. With approximately 6,000 print resources available and
an expansive amount of digital resources from databases to e-readers, students are
well-equipped for research activities as well as personal fulfillment through leisure
reading.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Keystone Library Media Center is to foster an atmosphere of critical
thinking, life-long learning, and intellectual freedom that inspires students to learn
more about themselves and the world around them. Therefore, the library media
center will provide updated technological equipment and print resources geared
toward information seekers who will be able to access and evaluate that information
independently.
Collection Development Policy
The purpose of the Keystone Library Media Center is to provide appropriate
educational materials for our students intellectual development. The collection should
support the schools curriculum and provide materials both teachers and students with
age appropriate material. The Keystone Library Media Center currently has over
12,000 items, including 30computers for student and faculty use. These items include
hardbacks, paperbacks, eBooks, reference books, newspaper subscriptions, periodicals,
video recordings, and audio recordings. (See Appendix 1A on page five).
Internet and Acceptable Use Policy
The Keystone Library Media Center provides computers and internet access to its
students. This access is provided to promote the learning of new concepts and provide
information that is not available in print resources. Our policy outlines student
responsibilities for responsible computer and internet use. All policies must be
followed at all times to maintain computer privileges. All students must read and sign
an Acceptable Use Policy each school year. Parents or legal guardians must also read
and sign this policy as well. This agreement states that all involved agree to follow the
rules and policies set forth by the Keystone Library Media Center Acceptable Use
Policy. (See Appendix 2A on page six).

APPENDIX 1A
Collection Development Policy
Philosophy. The purpose of the Keystone Library Media Center is to provide
appropriate educational materials for our students intellectual development.
The collection should support the schools curriculum and provide
materials both teachers and students with age appropriate material.
Collection. The Keystone Library Media Center currently has over 12,000
items, including 30 computers for student and faculty use. These items
include hardbacks, paperbacks, eBooks, reference books, newspaper
subscriptions, periodicals, video recordings, and audio recordings.
Selection. It is the responsibility of the schools librarian to choose materials that
support the philosophy and purpose of the Keystone Library. Library materials
are chosen based on information received from faculty, teachers, and students.
In addition, the librarian will use professional journals and other selection tools
to choose appropriate materials for the library.
The school librarian will use professional guidelines when purchasing materials
for the library to include:
1. Booklist and School Library Journal
2. Recommendations of other librarians
3. Selection criteria put in place by the school district

By signing this policy, students and parents agree to follow the computer and internet
policies of the Keystone Library Media Center:
1. Responsible Use
I will use library technology for intended school purposes.
I will keep all passwords private.
I will not provide any personal information online.
I will only look at my personal files.
I will not download files unless instructed to do so by school authority.
I will not intentionally damage library computer hardware.
2. Online Manners
I will not bully others online or spread rumors/gossip.
I will not look at or retrieve inappropriate information or photos.
I will not access other students personal information.
3. Computer Ethics
I will only complete work that is my own.
I will not cheat on my work.
I will obey all copyright laws.
