Direct Instructional Model
Open
I will begin the class by having the students come in and sit on the carpet. I will open up the
lesson by discussing the learning goal. I will then define what informative writing is to the
students. Next, I have the students discuss with their elbow partners different posters they have
seen around school that has informed the students about school events occurring throughout the
year. Then, I will go over the requirements for the informative writing and technology project.
Additionally, I will model how to create a QR code based off the YouTube video the students
choose for their project.
Instructions for the project: I will repeat and model for the students.
Step 1: Students will choose an influential person from a provided list.
Step 2: Students will research facts about the influential person on school laptops.
Step 3: Students will use facts to write one paragraph about their influential person. The
paragraph will include a topic sentence, three detail sentences, and one concluding sentence.
Step 4: Student will find an appropriate YouTube video that shows a visual representation of the
person they choose.
Step 5: Students will then create their QR codes.
Step6: Students will then create a poster with research facts and add their QR code.
Step 7: Students will scan their QR code to make sure the link works and takes them to the
correct YouTube video.
Step 8: Students will add pictures of their influential poster.
Step 9: Students will present their poster to their peers.
Development Body:

Next, the students will begin to choosing their influential person from a list provided. Then, the
students will begin the research portion of the project on appropriate research site. This will
continue for 2 to 3 days. When they are completed with their research they must start on the
writing section, which is one paragraph. It must have all the elements of a paragraph; one topic
sentence, three detail sentences, and one concluding sentence of their influential person.
Closure Close:
Lastly, the students will begin creating their posters with pictures. In this part of the section the
students must find an appropriate YouTube video clip that corresponds with their influential
person. Additionally, they will make a QR code that their peers can scan in order to watch the
YouTube video of their influential person. They will also self-check their project by reviewing
the requirements from a rubric provided. In the end, the students will present their projects to
their classmates.
Assessment:
Assessment/ Rubrics:
I will assess the students knowledge on being able to write an informative paragraph about their
influential person and being able make a poster with research facts and a QR code, while
attaching it to a YouTube clip. The students will need at least 80% accuracy in the informative
project and technology.
Lesson Reflection:
Guidelines:
I have not yet taught this lesson. I currently do not have my own classroom, but when I do, I will
have the students complete this project that incorporates technology. I am looking forward to it :)
