Unit Title: The nervous system

Name:Michael Bortz

Content Area: Biology

Grade Level:9/10

CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):

HS-LS1-2.Develop and use a model to illustrate the hierarchical organization of interacting systems that provide
specific functions within multicellular organisms.
MP.4 Model with mathematics

HS-LS1-4)

Big Ideas:

- How does the human body work?

-What's up with brains
- how do we learn more about how animals work

Unit Goals and Objectives:

Students will know the step by step process by which a neuron fires
-Students will understand the structure and function of PNS and CNS systems
-Students will be able to construct a mathematical model of a habbien learning network
Unit Summary:

In this lesson we will discuss how our nervous system works. This will involve learning about both our brain and the
nerves that run throughout our bodies. First we will lean how individual nerves work and then learn how the
work together to govern all the thoughts and actions in our bodies. Then we will learn how the different parts of our
brain control the different parts of our bodies. And after all this learning its going to be time for (drum roll please)
MATH! That's right we are going to learn how to calculate and predict how signals move through our brain and body

Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level:
Students will write a short essay
describing how they think a stimulus
such as touching a hot stove goes into
the brain and then how it exits the brain
in the from of motion.

Formative:
Webersize
Quizlet
Graphic organiezer

Summative:
Project: Students will construct a habbien
learning network that demonstrates
learning taking place in the brain using
Tlearn soft wear
Test: Essay test where students will
describe how a stimulus such as touching
a hot stove goes into the brain and then
how it exits the brain in the from of
motion.
