Ramadan

THE FASTING OF FEASTS

N is for Night of Power

Also known as laylat al-Qadr, this night is represented in Islamic belief


as the time when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to
Muhammad. It is celerbrated around the las ten days of Ramadan. God
is known to forgive everyone of their sincs this night.

O is for Odd numbers

Odd numbers seem to be a big part of this tradition. The night of power
usually starts around the dates of the 19th or 21st. A recommended act
during this time is to break the fast by eating an odd number of fresh
or dry dates.

P is for Pregnant women.

Pregnant women have an option of


whether or not they need to as. If
they do not participate they can
either fast or feed one poor person
for each day missed.

Some people believe that if women fear this time only for
the baby they should choose to feed the poor person and
make up the days.

Q is for Quran

The Quran is a group of chapters and


teachings that Muhammad was
revealed to by Allah. Throughout this
work, there are mentions of
prophets, prophecies, and even
Jesus.

R is for Ramdan

Ramdan is a month out of the year that every sane and healthy Muslim
must choose or at least try to fast and leave the purest life possible. It
is a main pillar of Muslim. There are some exceptions to the fasting
such as women that are menstruating.

S is for Sunnah

Sunnah is a day where Muslims offer more prayers than normally.


However, it is mainly during the night. The people hope Allah will give
them something if he is awaken with payers.

T is for Traditions

There is no specific date for Ramadan. However, they do


have specific dates for when certain parts should start,
such as the 21st, 23rd, and so on. Many traditions start the
night before the 27th of Ramadan

U is for Understanding Exceptions

Although there are many actions that are against the this time such as
sexual acts and eating certain things, there are always exceptions.
Some of these exceptions include accidental consumption, tasting food
with your tongue, and even kissing and embracing your spouse.

V is for Verses

Many verses of the Quran are used,


reiterated, and even memorized
during this time. A specific verse that
is used is Sura 97. This verse speaks
of the Night of Power and gives
instructions on it.

W is what do people do?

The month of Ramadan is used to fast and is used for self-examination,


increasing religious devotion. The people of this faith are asked and
encouraged to read the entire Quran during this month. Charities are
often increased and many are willing to give more during this time.

Z is for Zealous

People take this time very seriously; it is very rare that you will see
someone that has not or is not doing it. The few exceptions listed
earlier will be the only people that you see now doing it. Muslims take
not only this part of their religion but every inch and part of it very
seriously.

Y is for Yourself

Ramdan is used for a lot of


introspection and to increase ones
self. Many self pleasures are taken
away and few are allowed. People
will pray to Allah and offer their own
bodies, through a fast, to receive
blessings.
