Update May 2015

Dear Parents:
April had been a really busy month
because of the Leadership Days. The
students had been practicing every
week to ensure they fulfill their
responsibilities correctly on those
days. It was a great success. The
students were very excited to
welcome educators in the classroom
and show them around, explaining
the school and classroom missions
and their personal Wildly Important
Goals (WIGs). Parents and educators
had the opportunity to see how
Ridgewood P.S. is trying to
incorporate the 8 Habits in students
everyday life and help them become
leaders. We were very pleased to
learn that our school has become a
Lighthouse school! It encourages us
to do better and improve in areas
where we are still struggling.
Reaching the Lighthouse status is a
great milestone, but it is also a great
responsibility. We thank you for your
continuous support and we hope our
students will become great leaders.

Languages
In French, we are placing a lot of
emphasis on oral communication.
The students are watching videos
and learning how to communicate
properly. It is important that they
watch those videos at home and
write down all the new words they
encounter on their vocabulary
copybook. This will help them attain
the goal of 1000 new words for the
school year.
In English, students have been
learning how to write different types
of poems. We will continue
practicing making inferences and
reading between the lines to
understand the text. Students will
be focusing on the proper use of
quotation marks and how create a
sense of mood in their writing
(angry, excitement, suspense etc.)
Also, students will be sharing a
good copy of their narrative writing
during the Young Authors Day.

The Leader In Me
Students have completed their project
on Habitats. Some have built very nice
and informative models of habitats,
which they showed in the Science fair.
Their next project on Pulleys and
Gears is due on May 15, 2015.
You can help your child at home by
taking him/her to the library, looking up
information on the Internet, and talking
about pulleys and gears in our everyday
life.

Social Studies
Students are working on their brochure
of a region in Canada. They are reading

We believe, each child has the

potential of becoming a leader. If he
or she develops the right habits and
practices them consistently, he or
she would overcome challenges
and become more confident in life.
We encourage students to view
every situations in light of the 8-

books and searching online for

information. Their brochure has to be
informative and attractive. The success
criteria are found on the classroom
website.

Habits and make the right choices.

This is a process which takes a lot
of time before the students learn to
do it subconsciously. We encourage
every parent to support their child to
practice the 8-Habits and discover
their Leader in Me qualities.
