7th Grade Health and PE Packet

2015
Hello!
My name is Mr. Lubich (Lube-ish) and I will be your Physical Education teacher for the
Fall 2014 semester.
A little bit about me: I currently live in Greene County (Southwest corner of PA) on a
small 5 acre ranch with my dog Inca and 21 pound tomcat Buck. I earned my teaching degree
from Slippery Rock University in 2009, and I am currently working on a Masters of Education at
West Virginia University (Lets go Mountaineers!). Before coming to Agora I taught across
Europe and was a Paramedic for EMS Southwest for three years. I enjoy teaching, kayaking,
hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, bonfires, camping, biking, and swimming. I recently got
into Triathlons and I ran in the Syracuse 70.3 Ironman on June 22nd, and finished in 6 hours 46
minutes and 24 seconds! While attending Slippery Rock, I participated on the Water Polo and
Track Teams. In high school, I played football, basketball, and ran track; am a 2 year State
Champion in the High jump and hold a PSAC Championship from 2009. I have a wide range of
experiences, so please feel free to ask me anything and I will do my best to answer!

How does PE work?

Class: Class is MANDATORY. You can find which days you have class in the kmail you
received this letter in and write it down and or circle them on the calendars provided. Please
come to our first class with any questions you may have. You will officially begin to record your
activities starting on Monday, February 9th, 2015.

How do I pass PE?

In order to pass Physical Education you will need to exercise 150 minutes per week (30 minutes
per day for 5 days or any combination that adds up to 150 minutes).

What are Activity Logs?

Please print out pages six (6) through ten (10). These can be used as your logs. Each time you
exercise, please write the activity you performed and for how long on the log. You can also use a
notebook or a word document if you prefer, whatever works best for you, to keep track of how
much you exercise. You will then transfer your activity into a monthly quiz taken in Sapphire.
Logs are a onetime deal unless youve created a time machine. NO RETAKES ON LOGS

Where do I take my quizzes and submit my activity logs?

Grading: Grading will be done using Sapphire Quiz Manager. Please write down your Sapphire
username, password, and pin number in the spaces provided below. You will have a total of 15
quizzes (5 points each) and 4 Logs (20 points each) for a total of 155 points.

The three things you need to do to pass PE:

1) Come to class. Attendance is mandatory. (Will explain more in our first live session)
2) Exercise 150 minutes per week (30 minutes per day for 5 days or any combination that
adds up to 150 minutes). Exercise over the weekend can count towards your 150
minutes.
3) You will take a quiz based off of the live lessons loaded in Sapphire. You will also have
to complete a monthly Physical Activity Log. Questions will include what type of
exercise you performed, how long you worked out, and information from the class
sessions. Make sure to keep track of your daily exercise in the activity logs (also
attached).
What is Exercise? Planned physical activity done regularly to build or maintain ones
fitness. Attached you will find a list of approved activities that you can perform to count
towards your physical activity. You will also find a log to help you keep track of activity time. I
ask that you try to not use gaming systems such as Wii or Xbox 360 for more than 40 minutes (or
one day) of your physical activity time. I understand that Wii Fit and Xbox Kinect designed for
you to become more active at home, but I encourage you to try and find new ways to become
physically active. What is the worst that could happen? You could try something new, and enjoy
it .
Questions? If you have any questions, please ask during the first live session. Everything will be
explained more in detail.
I look forward to working with you this semester! Also dont forget to log into my website to
keep up to date with the latest news! http://lubichpe.weebly.com/
