Overview of Unit Topic/Theme: a) Provide an overall picture of the unit of study; and b) identify key unit concepts (2 -5).
This unit starts at the beginning of practicum and goes for the full 6 weeks. Class is on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 30 minutes a class.
Two classes will be doing activities to familiarize the students with events in Track and field and one day will be minor games. The track and field
events we will be covering are sprinting, long jump and discus. The activities we will use to teach these events come from the resource run, jump,
throw... and away we go. Minor games will come from a small personal collection of games, some the students are familiar with and others they are
not. The minor game will be decided at the beginning of each week based on skills the students might need more practice with or activity level.
Key concepts:
Can students participate in the activity safely while following the rules.
Sprinting
Long Jump
Discus
High jump
Triple jump
Rationale for Unit: Why are you teaching this unit and how is it relevant to the students at this point in time?
With track and field day approaching this unit is giving them a chance to be introduced to some of the events and allow them to develop proper technique. The
minor games once a week give the students a break and allows them play time Each event will be taught in the levels provided in the run, jump resource and
gives them an opportunity to practice before the actual events.
Big Idea: Daily physical activity builds strength, endurance and flexibility.(1)
Proper technique for movement skills in a variety of activities in deferent environments.(2)
relationships between the components of physical activity and specific physical activities.(3)

at each end using cones
(approximately 5mX5m).
Each team begins
with one soccer ball and the
aim of the game is to get
possession of both balls and
move them into the
oppositions goal area.
Players designated
as attackers are encouraged
move their ball in an
attacking manner while
the defenders should try and
