Artifact Reflection
Title of Experience/Artifact:

Trangle Ball Unit Plan, Dribbling With Feet Unit Plan

Date Experience Completed:

9/17/14

Describe your educational experience/artifact:

For this standard I chose to pick two artifacts that show my understanding in
instructional planning. My first artifact was a Trangle Ball unit plan in which I was in charge of
making a unit plan on a new game that I learned about in class. This game was called Trangle
Ball, after learning about the game I was to put together a unit plan to teach to the Platteville
High School students. The second artifact that showed instructional planning was my unit plan
on dribbling with feet. This unit plan consisted of coming up with different games and
activities in which I had to teach to my entire class.
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment
I believe these artifacts best align with Standard Seven: Instructional Planning:
Teachers are able to plan different kinds of lessons. The teacher organizes and plans systematic
instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, pupils, the community, and curriculum
goals.
The two artifacts that best shows my competence in planning for instruction are my two
unit plans. Trangle Ball and dribbling with feet unit plans show that I am able to plan
systematic instructions based on my knowledge of the two different activities, as well as
planning for multiple days for those activities. This is characterized in the unit plan by showing
the first days basic fundamental skills that start the unit plan. Later on in the unit plan the
lessons get more complex and add more too each lesson advancing student skill and
understanding of the skill. The next lesson plans usually add to previous like for instance with
dribbling with feet I start off with the basic dribbling then add onto it by using the inside and
outside of foot along with the top and sole of the foot for more immobilization in the skills
taught. After that is the game like situations in which the students use what they have learned
from previous lesson to plan game like activities that incorporate the basic fundamentals to
check for understanding. It also shows that I came up with multiple games and activities to
keep the students engaged physically. Unit plans are very important for physical education
teachers because it will help them progress and learn from what they taught as well as what
they should change or modify for the next time they teach the unit.

UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skills, Dispositions Alignment

KS3.c. ENGAGES STUDENTS IN LEARNING The candidate has the ability to
engage students in the learning process by linking appropriate content, based upon suitable
instructional materials and resources, to students knowledge and experience, being certain that
all students are cognitively engaged in the activities/assignments and that the students actively

contribute to the content design. Instruction is highly coherent and appropriately paced for all
students and allows for reflection and closure as appropriate.
I believe that the standard planning for instruction aligns with this KSD because
throughout the unit plans I actively keep the students engaged by going through multiple
activities and games for them to participate in. One of the most important aspects of physical
education is being able to get the students engaging in the activities and having them learn and
demonstrate their knowledge to the teacher. I make sure in my unit plans to plan activities that
build off each other and have good transitions which makes more time for engaging students in
learning. Also I would check for understanding in the different unit plans. For instance I would
ask the students what parts of the foot you could use to dribble the soccer ball. And what parts
would work better than others? This would help me as a teacher to see if the students are
understanding what they are being taught. As well as helps me to see that the students are
ready to move on to the next lesson.

Explain what you learned about teaching/learning from this experience:

These two artifacts greatly helped me in my teaching and working on instructional
planning. I was able to create lessons based on my own knowledge as well as using resources
to come up with different games and activities that helped me teach to my students and peers. I
learned that it takes lots of planning and preparation to teach different types of lessons. Some
lessons work more smoothly than others but students and peers should be able to achieve an
overall goal for that certain lesson as well as building on to each lesson plan for the students to
continue to learn and grow.

Explain what you learned about yourself as a prospective educator as a result of this
experience/artifact:

I learned a lot about myself when it came to instructional planning with my unit plans. I
learned that I am able to come up with ideas that are beneficial to my students while getting
them to be physically active. I also learned that I am growing and learning new strengths that I
do well at in the classroom but also some weaknesses that I need to work on to become a better
educator. A strength that I have learned is that if a student is not understanding a portion of the
lesson, try a different approach to it because all students learn differently. Overall, the more
that I use my instructional planning to plan for each unit that I teach I will continue to learn
what types of activities work well and which do not. I will continue to work on my unit plans
and hopefully have a good sense of how the flow and transitions of each work to help me
better myself as a future educator.
