Concluding Statement
For the past three days you have all listened to the accounts of many victims and conductors of
the Yugoslav Wars of Independence. Granted, we all came here to state our opinions and draw reality
from propaganda. The norm, in this situation, no longer applies. Yugoslavia is an anomaly- the facts
that lie behind this case have long been unclear.
But, today- after the many hours spent with these witnesses and the evidence that youve been
provided -today- with many hours at our backs -today- when truth must overrule those who seek to
draw the curtains closed -everyone will make a choice. Each and everyone of you must decide- are the
Serb officials the one true cause behind the downfall of a once model European country? Or, to those of
you who may still second guess the authenticity of the fault of the Serbs, maybe you still need more
time. Sadly, we do not have the time to contend with our internal disagreements. Perhaps a recount of
what you have heard will help you some:
Familys suffered great losses to the Serbian rule- women were widowed, children lost their
brothers and fathers. As the prosecution so kindly provided, the Bosnian Serb Army killed many men
and boys during the Srebrenica massacre. Slobodan Milosevic admitted to Serbian control of a troubled
economy with minimal growth. Goran Jelisic proved that the Serbian paramilitary was extremely
unorganized and that his violent acts made it impossible for the Muslims to live in a united Yugoslavia
along side the Serbs. Evidence presented during Dusko Tadics recall said that the Albanians caused the
break up because of nationalistic influence. The truth is that this was merely inspiration and not the
actual cause of the secession. They themselves (defense) said this. Also, we should not consider the
actions of and actions against the Serbs before 1991, as we are focusing on the years from 1991 to
1995.
So, I ask you to make a decision. I ask you, above all things, to make a decision that will bring
peace to the many people who lost their lives in the worst holocaust Europe has seen since Nazi
Germany during World War II. I ask you to bring justice to their many families sprawled across the
eastern Mediterranean. I ask you, today, to recognize the effects of the violence caused by Serbian
domination of the Yugoslav government as the one true cause of Yugoslavias demise. The compilation
of evidence adds up, and, now, it all comes down to whether or not you are willing to bring justice to
the many lives lost and/or ravaged by the Serbian officials? Or will you stand aside and let crime go
unpunished after the punishment the innocent received just for having lived where they belonged.
