Limiting GMOs
FRINQ
Mr.Flower

There are controversial argument on GMOs if they are either helpful or

harmful. Genetically Modified Organism is one of the most important issues
from around the world. What are GMOs? GMOs are organisms genes have
been altered with DNA from different species of living organism, bacteria, or
viruses to get desired traits such as resistance to diseases or tolerance of
pesticides. There have been a raised of concerns over their own beneficial in
that they are resistance to diseases, help humans suffering from famine,
produce greater yields, and improve the nutrition of foods. People raise
questions about consuming GMO foods and their possible risks and effects.
What is clear is that there is not enough information on the consequences of
GMO on human health of yet. But there have been no evidence of GMO food
possessing risk and danger, but it seems to posse wide, uncertain and,
potentially dangerous implications for human health.
The GMO market has grown tremendously such as the Monsanto
industry. Monsanto have monopolized the biotechnology industry and

continuing to do so. They have become the worlds largest producer of GM

seeds. Agriculture has grown to support of GMO arguing that the crop
production had improved, growth of more nutritious food, development of
Improved and alternative pharmaceutical products, improved health of
plants, and enhancing the resistance of crops to harsh climate and pest etc.
Most GMOs have some industrial ties, thus limiting the research of
particularly with regard of safety. The connections between big business and
GMO foods is an issue in and of itself, as it seems that biotechnology
companies have put economic gains before safety concerns. There are raised
moral and ethical questions. Raised about the responsibility of these
companies and government to regulate theses industries and protect the
public. There is no way of knowing the overall, long-term effects of
genetically engineered foods on human health. This unpredictability appears
to be causing the most controversy over GMO foods, as there is insufficient
evidence and need for further research.
Because GMOs are novel life forms, biotechnology companies have
been able to obtain patents with which to restrict their use. As a result, the
companies that make GMOs now have the power to sue farmers whose fields
are contaminated with GMOs, even when it is the result of inevitable drift
from neighboring fields. GMOs therefore pose a serious threat to farmer
sovereignty and to the national food security of any country where they are
grown, including the United States.

There are no proven examples of GM products adding risk. In contrast,

there are many examples of the technology reducing risks. There are many
health concerns associated with the genetic modification of foods. Although
farmers have used crossbreeding to improve crops and animals for
thousands of years, which occurred between two varieties of the same or
similar species. One issue seems to be the genetic engineering between two
different species, especially between animals and plants, which some
perceive as breaking down natural barriers with unpredictable results. This
kind of genetic engineering may cause the spread of diseases across
barriers, thereby creating problems that could never naturally exist. This
particular type of engineering is also a moral and ethical issue for vegans
and some religious groups because gene transfer goes against what they
practice and believe. Many consumers are unaware of what they are
consuming due to the lack of labeling.
GMO have greater impacts on developing countries than developed
countries. Where other types of inputs, like fertilizers, farm equipment, and
pesticides are harder to afford, GM crops have more to offer that can help
increase food, reduce pressure on deforestation and lift farmers out of
poverty. Studies show that it was safe and that it could cut pesticides use by
half and reducing pest.
Since world population is still growing, food production cant feed the
worlds population. There are advantages of GM foods such as being pest
resistance, herbicide tolerance, disease resistance, climate tolerance, really

nutritious and can be used in pharmaceuticals. Vitamin A deficiency is

responsible for the 500,000 cases of irreversible blindness and deaths.
People need money to avoid micronutrient deficiencies because they need a
varied diet, rich in vegetables, fruits and animal products. The second best
approach for those who cannot afford a balanced diet is by creating a
nutrient-dense staple crops. Scientist creating a rice plant that produced a
high dose of nutrition called the golden rice. The people are concern the risk
of golden rice but golden rice can save millions if the trust it more.
Should we limit the use of GMOs? There are benefits the agribusiness
and government that GM food are better quality and taste, and making crops
disease resistant s we have higher yields and more efficient production. The
crops also are modified to be nutritious and can save millions doing so. Since
GMOs are modified to be resistance, they dont need herbicide and pesticide.
The most important claim is that GMOs are safe for human consumption. But
what are the disadvantage of GMOs?
Reading the article called On the front lines of Hawaiis GMO War,
brought up interesting information how dangerous GMOs and the maker can
be. The GMOs industry in Hawaii are using more pesticides than traditional
farmers and exceeding the use of restricted use pesticides on their plots.
The wind picks up the pesticide used in the GMOs and spread it to
neighboring homes. Neighboring children and newborns are being affected
the most. Local doctors and nurses have reported what they say is a spike in
rare birth defects in the area.

Its sad to think that the government are looking the other way
around. Not all science and technology are beneficial, it is a two edged sword
than can destroy humanity. The locals of Hawaii is being attacked by a
foreign corporation with malicious intent to destroy natural foods to promote
under a one world food source. Having these chemical shoving their poisons
down our throats is basically having a massive nuclear plant in our backyard.
Its not the GM food that is causing danger but the maker itself. They seem to
be more focus on short-term profit rather than the future and long term
goals.
There are no current evidence that GMOs are dangerous, but the
production of GMO crops and foods points to is product had zero
accountability, zero safety testing by the very agencies that are supposed to
keep the public from harm and the immeasurable unintended negative
consequences that GMO possess. Monsanto has continued to monopolize the
biotechnology industry. If they control seed, they control food. Its more
powerful than guns. Its more powerful than bombs. Monsanto has great
influence over policymakers and government agencies. They can us their
influence to stifle concerns about their product including misleading
advertising, bribery, and concealing scientific evidence. The product is
beneficial to an extent, but the future outcomes what worries me. There are
lack of evidence that GM food pose a threat to human, animal, or soil health,
but it doesnt mean that there are no threats. GMOs are deregulated unless
there is a strong evidence of a substantial quantifiable risk. Unless GMOs

isnt kept in check, we are risking ourselves from danger. Biotech industries,
unfortunately majority of the people want to know if the food theyre
purchasing contains GMOs, has succeeded in keeping GMOs labeled from the
public.
Labeling GMOs would drive consumers away. Since natural crops
require more water and pesticides than GMOs do, natural food will be more
expensive. This is the price for non-GMO foods. Limiting GMOs have
consequence that can be terrifying. Since the worlds population is
continuing to grow in an abnormal rate, production of natural food will soon
deplete. Prices will rise and some of the crops or plants can reach extinction.
We wont be able to feed our children if we limit the use of GMOs. Consumers
need to be more informed of what GMOs are how they are beneficial to us.
Instead of listening to anti-GMO critics and supporting them without the
knowledge of GMOs. GMOs can save the growing population and limiting
them will limit ourselves. There is no need to limit, instead pursue infinity.
The controversial between anti-GMO and pro-GMOS still continues as of
today. More people need to be more informed of what are GMOs, rather than
following the critics who are against it. GMOs are healthier, better and
beneficial for all especially developing countries. What we should be more
concern of is the biotech industrial rather than the GMOs itself. They are
responsible for our safety and health. We consumers need to be more
informed of what are GMOs instead of labeling them dangerous without

knowledge. Since there are limited evidence that GM foods are dangerous,
but it doesnt mean there are no potential risk.
