This course analyzes the works of Geoffrey Chaucer against the social and cultural developments in
the fourteenth century.

Class Policy
There will be a midterm and a final exam. The midterm (40%) and the final (60%) will make up
the grade for the course.
You are expected to read regularly and take an active part in the class discussions. The lectures
will relate to the readings assigned for each week; however, they will also cover outside sources.
Students will be responsible for the assigned readings as well as the lectures. All the prologues
to the stories listed below are also to be read and studied. "The Wife of Bath's Prologue" is given
separately because it is a tale in its own right.
If you are taking this course, please kindly make sure you send a request including your full name
and student number to join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/inde4032chaucer. Course material
