This hands-on study Of the art and craft of mation picture photography provides the student with multiple approaches towards intelligent and artistic ways of shooting. Cinematography encapsulates the in-depth analysis of painting and sculpting with light, cinematographic control of the aesthetic, and the ‘emotional possibilities of a well designed and executed photographic image. As both an art and a crafl, it is @ dynamic process that involves the composition of light, shadow, time and movement. The cinematographer achieves a synthesis of technical skills and creative sensibility. In terms of craft, students are taught photographic theory, concepts and techniques in lighting, In parallel, students are offered in-depth master classes on cinematographic concepts, theory and history. Black and White and Color flim stocks are tested to help students make the best choice for their films. Each team is assigned a tutor who provides instruction on the relevant camera and lenses, and analysis ofrushes. There are regular Q&A and masterclass events with Jeading cinematographers, bringing students into even closer engagement wth practitioners of their craft. In preparation for the upcoming projects, students learn lighting techniques of increasing complexity, building on their skills through shooting tests and experimentation, ‘Students gain enormously from the discipline of working with, and being educated on film and Video. HE The course in Sound Recording & Sound Designis a blend of technology and the creative use of sound in the media. The department of sound has a combination of digital and analog equipment with both tape and disk based systems. The Institule has two sound recording studios, one for live recordings and the other for dubbing, mixing and dialogue looping. The larger studio is Dolby digital enabled. The department also has portable digital audio recorders, HDD based workstations, several outboard effects processing equipment, automated mixing, electronic looping system and a well-equipped electronics laboratory. The students have an opportunity to gain comprehensive hands-on experience through original recordings, practical and group exercises and projects with other students. The training in listening and analysis of sound is designed to hone skils needed for critical appraisal of reproduced sounds. (Our approach to training is diferent from that ofthe typical American Fiim School (with its clear emphasis on the Hollywood mainstream script) or the East Eropion style of Film training ( which leams almost exclusively towards & alternative form of expression).
