Form: 4 Wajibulghunnah

Level: Intermediate

Date: 9.6.2015

Theme: Investigating the physiology of living things

Time: 12.30 p.m.

Topic: Chapter 7: Respiration

Subtopic: 7.3 Gaseous exchanges across the respiratory surfaces and transport of gases in
in human body.
Objective: Understanding the concept of gaseous exchange across the respiratory surfaces and
transport of gases in human.

Learning outcomes: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Describe the process of gaseous exchange across the surface of the alveolus and
blood capillaries in the lungs.
2. Explain the transport of respiratory gases.
3. Explain the process of gaseous exchange between the blood and body cells.

Moral values:
1. Students will be able to feel devoted to god by understanding a mechanism that works
automatically and systemically by itself.
2. Students will be able to be more grateful and appreciate their health condition, to prevent
themselves from being caught in diseases.

Educational emphasis: Analysing the process in alveoli, classify the composition of gases,
communication between students and teacher.
Instructional aids: Diagram of human alveolus, diagram of blood capillaries, textbook, marker pens.
Previous knowledge: Students already learnt about respiratory structures in humans and their
characteristics, the breathing mechanism in previous subtopic, respiratory
structures and respiratory mechanism in human and animal.

Teaching procedure:
Stage
Set induction
(5 minutes)

Development
(15 minutes)

Instructional activity
1) Teacher greets the students
2) Teacher then draw a cigarette
and lung diagram on the
whiteboard.
3) Teacher then asks the students to
observe the drawings.
4) Teacher then explain and relate
on how the diagrams work and
relate it with the lesson that
going to be learn next.

1. Teacher starts to explain about

process of gaseous exchange
across the surface of alveolus
and blood capillaries in lungs.
By using a diagram of
alveolus, teacher
explains the gaseous
exchange process in
respiratory surfaces.
Partial pressure of
oxygen is higher in the
air in alveolus
compared to the
composition of air in
the blood capillaries.
Difference in partial
pressure of oxygen and
carbon dioxide in blood
that enters and leaves
alveolus.
2. Teacher then will explain about
the transport of respiratory gases.
3. By using a diagram of blood
capillaries and body cells,
teacher also explains process of
gaseous exchange between blood
and body cells.

Learning activity
1. Students greet
teacher back.
2. Students pay
attention and
observe the
drawings of
cigarette and lungs
on the whiteboard.
3. Students listen to
teachers
explanation
regarding the
drawings on the
board.
1. Students listen to
teachers lecture and
jotting down notes
and important
points in the
learning.
2. Students look at the
diagram and analyse
it.
3. Students listen to
explanation and
taking notes from it.

Activity 1
(5 minutes)

1. Teacher tells the student

that they are going to
do some reinforcement
exercise, regarding the
topic learnt.
2. Teacher writes several
questions on the
whiteboard.
3. Teacher discusses the
correct answer with the
students after all the
students done with the
exercise.

1. Students get ready and

pay attention to
teachers instructions.
2. Students read the
questions on the board
and discuss with their
friends to answer them.
3. Students cooperate with
teacher while
discussing the correct
answers for the
exercise.

Conclusion
(5 minutes)

1. Teacher then will make

conclusion that gaseous
exchange process in
respiratory system is a
crucial process in
human.
2. Teacher also asks
students for their own
conclusions.

1. Students listen to
teachers conclusion.
2. Students respond to
teachers question and
tell their conclusions.

Follow up activity: Teacher asks student to create their own mind map on the steps in the process of
gaseous exchange in alveolus.
