Nursing educators work both in academia with research and in clinical areas, so it is important

that Advanced Practice Nursing Educators remain strong in their clinical areas and obtain their
degree in nursing practice (Denisco & Barker, 2016). Being strong clinically is not going to
necessarily mean the individual would be a great instructor, which is why the DNP program for
educators must include classes that focus on learning theories as well. Having an educator
trained individual that has a degree in practice and not research will allow the nurse educator to
be a stronger educator for the nursing students within our institutions today and into the future.
Advanced Practice Nursing broadens the scope of knowledge that individuals are exposed to,
bringing to light the research and theories that help to shape the nursing profession. Society is a
large and ever changing group that has to be treated as a whole and as individuals. Nurses are
charged with providing education to the communities to ensure that they will lead healthy and
long lives and they are also expected to get to know the individual and help them at the level that
they need, putting any previous thoughts or expectations to the side. Accepting the patient with
all of the nuances of individual beliefs and accepting them so that the nurse and the individual
can work together to create a balance for the individual to lead a long and healthy life.
The APN is educated in research, implementing evidence based practice into every day health
promotion and works with management, as well as government agencies to implement policies to
help prevent disease and promote wellness. With the knowledge gained from clinical nursing and
the research that is available, the APN has the tools that they need to educate others to help to
implement these practices for the good of the individual as well as improving the health of the
community as a whole. A nurse educator implements all of these while educating the nurses of
the future. Showing future nurses how vital this information is to the communities and the world
will help them to understand their placement and how they can positively influence the health of
others as well. Nursing educators need to also include the health of the nursing student. The
nursing student will not be able to become the best nurse they can if they cannot care for
themselves. Mental and physical health needs to be implemented as a necessity for the focus of
nursing students so that they can carry this into their future practice as well.
