NAIDOC Week
The City of Subiaco is celebrating the history and
contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people during NAIDOC Week from 5 to 12 July.
The city has plenty in store for the July school holidays.
Community notices
Q Rokeby Road median strip works
The City of Subiaco will be undertaking works on the Rokeby
Road median strip between Bagot and Roberts roads in July.
Following an Arborist report, Council endorsed a detailed
physical investigation to identify the extent of the Plane trees
root systems in the existing trafc medians in Rokeby Road.
Results from this investigation will determine the feasibility
of a partial or complete removal of the median strip in order
to improve the streetscape aesthetic and provide a safe
environment. Any further work will be subject to future council
resolutions and public consultation.
In order to carry out the investigation, 1.5 metres of the
existing curbs and paving will be removed on each side of all
trees growing in the median. The removal of the curb and
paving will be conducted at night after 7pm on 6 and 7 July
and the Arborist investigation will be conducted during the day
from 7 until 10 July. The reinstatement of the curbing will be
done on the night of 13 and 14 July from 7pm.

Children at Mosman Park
Primary School have been
throwing their lunches in
the bin.
The school was surprised to
learn about the lunches and got
the Waste Authority to visit and
give advice on how to reduce
waste.
There were many uneaten
and untouched lunches thrown
into the bins, the schools P&C
minutes said.
Staff have spoken to the students about throwing lunches
into the bins.
Students have been asked to
take their lunch home if they are
unable to eat it or do not like the
food they have for lunch.
This will enable parents to
provide another lunch option
if necessary.
The Waste Authority is part
of the state Department of
Environmental Regulation. A
department spokeswoman said
the Waste Wise auditor made
general comments on strategies
to reduce waste.
[These] included suggesting
the school become an accredited
Waste Wise school, she said.
This would require the school
to write a simple waste management plan and policy and to form
a committee of willing staff and
student representatives.
In addition, the school could
apply for a Waste Wise infrastructure grant for the resources
that it needs.
She said the authority always
advised schools to start with
achievable projects that engaged and involve students in
finding the solution.
Projects included using reusable lunch containers instead of
cling wrap and snap-lock bags;
getting sandwich wraps or boxes;

Synergy customer
blows a fuse
over 10c charge
By DAVID HUDLESTON
The chair of a strata company
for a block of Mosman Park
units spent 45 minutes on the
phone trying to sort out a 10cent error made by electricity
supplier Synergy.
Synergy sent two bills within
days of each other when it
discovered the error made in
estimating its meter reading.
To make matters worse, the
strata company paid both bills.
Gill Vivian, of Vivians
Residential Real Estate in
Mosman Park, discovered the
payment when checking the
accounts one for $2634.90 and
the other for $2634.80.
Finding two accounts within
days of each other prompted
me to ring Synergy to complain
about the 10-cent difference
between the bills, she said.
She was told the legislation
required the second bill to be
sent out when the error was
discovered.
