Stress and an unhealthy diet are tied to heart disease because these are two of the causes of heart disease. Fast
food is high in saturated fats. According to livestrong.com (Links to an external site.) reducing your intake of saturated
fats and trans fats can make a significant reduction in your risk for heart disease. The same website also mentions
the importance of maintain normal cholesterol levels. Poor nutrition and food choices can lead to high cholesterol,
which can then cause artery hardening, a heart attack, or stroke. Eating healthy can make a big difference in
preventing heart disease.

Having good health should be a top priority. Keisha should be concerned about her health now for many reasons.
If Keisha starts caring about her health right now, she will be able to gain healthy lifestyle practices that she will have
for the rest of her life. If Keisha waits several years to begin eating healthy and exercising she might gain weight or
have high cholesterol which can both lead to heart disease. It is generally easier for a person to decide to live an
active lifestyle and eat nutritious foods than it is for an unhealthy person with some type of diagnosed problem to
suddenly decide to be healthy. In other words, being healthy should be preemptive and not reactionary.

Before this prompt I never considered the idea that heart attack prevention campaigns appeal to men and breast
cancer awareness campaigns appeal to women. Clearly, breast cancer is a disease that is more relevant to women
than men. The breast cancer campaigns that I am familiar with focus on spreading awareness which is important
because usually the earlier the cancer is spotted the better the treatment options. However, I have a harder time
explaining why heart attack prevention campaigns pander to men. According to theheartfoundation.orgheart disease
is the No. 1 killer of women, and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. Clearly heart disease is a
womens issue. However, heart disease has not been marketed as a cute or sexy or womanly issue, so most
campaigns appeal to men.

The first step I can take to be more aware of heart disease is simply knowing which foods are problematic. As
mentioned in my first paragraph, diet and nutrition can play an important role in reducing the risks of heart disease.
Examples of foods that are high in saturated fats are cheeses, butter, and fatty meats, and fast foods. I would
recommend avoiding these foods. When possible, substitute these foods with fruits, vegetables and whole grain
foods. Also, foods that are high in cholesterol (like eggs, fast foods, and butter) can lead to heart disease. I would
recommend my friends and family to eat less meat and try to eat a vegan diet as often as possible.
