*Requires iPad*
Standards:
MCC1.NBT.1
MCC1.MD.4
Activity/Procedures:Task 8
PERFORMANCE TASK: Graphing with Classmates
(CCGPS Mathematics Unit One p. 58)
Warm-up: Have students count by 1s orally.
Lesson: Part I Read The Best Vacation Ever. Use the YouTube app for students to
watch it being read (whole class). This should work with the projector via Bluetooth. Talk
about it with students. Use the BrainPop app to watch the video on graphs/charts on the
projector as well (whole class).
Lesson: Part II
Create charts using the Graphing for Kids Chart Maker app. Students will be able to
answer questions and create charts. This should be used in a small group setting and
allow one child at a time to answer questions. Students will be able to watch the graph
being made. This will help children understand graphs. While the small group is working
with the iPad, the other students will be working at their desks independently in their
math workbooks. They need to complete the graphing pages (p.53-55). Groups will
rotate.
Closing: Math Journal; Draw a tally chart.
Assessment: Using the iPad, project a graph onto the projector. This graph should come
from the Chart Maker app. Students will be asked a series of questions about the graph
and will answer them on their answer sheet. This will be a classwork grade.
