Workload point system


Standards:
The point system is a workload guide used
to project the amount of time needed by
Home Care Nurses to provide nursing
care for clients it is not necessary
reflective of nurses day.

Goals are to:

Facilitate client scheduling

Identify nursing time required to meet


specific client needs

Provide support for allocation of staff

Home Care RN will


Assign initial workload points for client care
required
Reassess workload points required for care
at each visit
Record and communicate workload point for
next visit as per our procedure (end of the
day or from clients home as soon as known)

indirect care time is time in the


work day where direct client care is not
scheduled
There is 1 hour 33 min of indirect care time
included in each work day . This time is to be
used for additional documentation ,
referrals , updating Kardex , preparing
supplies , reading emails, mandatory self
education-e-learining etc.

** Note: All assignment changes MUST be
called in to the Nursing Clerk or Office RN by
1330 for the next day!

Key Points to remember

Kardex is a mandatory communication tool used by


HCN in our office
Update Kardex daily and notify office of any
changes to schedule ASAP
Workload point system is used to allocate time
required for client care
There is 1 hour and 33 min in a workday for
unassigned indirect care
Point allocation is a guide for clients care and
nursing staffing assignment
