Indicate clearly answers that are cancelled, if any. PEN Where applicable, sow clearly steps taken in arriving at the solutions and indicate ALL assumptions, if any. 5. Do not open this Question Booklet until instructed Note : This Question Booklet contains ELEVEN (11) pages including the cover page and Appendix. Unive: Teknologi PETRONAS PAB 3053 Explain the following conceptual questions; be brief and precise in your explanation. a. Define reservoir simulation [2 marks] b. List THREE (3) applications of the reservoir simulation [3 marks] ©, Describe the main components of a reservoir simulator. [5 marks] d. Explain what is meant by saying that permeability is heterogeneous and anisotropic? [2 marks] e., Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of explicit and implicit finite difference methods for solving initial boundary value problems. [3 marks] f _ List the physical properties of rock and fluid necessary for derivation of the continuity equations for a black oli model (consider that only oil and gas phases exist in the reservoir, i.c., no water) [5 marks] PAB 3053 An oil formation dips with a 30° angle from horizontal as shown in FIGURE Q2. The reservoir permeability, &, is 50 md, its porosity, 4 is = 0.15, and its thickness, /, is 20 ft. The width of the reservoir, 1, is 200 ft. The oil density, is 45 Ibm/ft’, and the viscosity of the oil, 4, is 0.65 cp. The oil formation volume factor, B, is 1.2 STB/D. The vertical observation wells are driled at Points 1 and 2, and the distance between the wells is 2000 ft. The middle of the perforations at Observation Well 1 (Point 1) is 8200.0 ft below sea level, and that of Observation Well 2 (Point 2) is 7045.2 ft below sea level. Note that the datum is chosen at sea level. The bottom-hole pressure measured at the middle of the perforations at Well 1 is 3500 psia and that of Well 2 is 3470 psia a. Determine the direction of flow. Justify your answer. [5 marks] b. Compute flow rate in STB/D. [5 marks] 2000 #t Horizontal (Sea level) ++ Well 4 , 7064.3 fi subsea Horizontal FIGURE Q2
