Name of the Experiment:

Study on cylinder driving mechanism & working principle of Single Lift Single Cylinder (SLSC) Jacquard loom.

Objectives:

To know about different parts of single lift single cylinder jacquard loom.
To know about its working Principle.
To know about its cylinder driving mechanism.

In this SLSC Jacquard Loom, there are

100 Hooks
100 Noodles
4 Knives
1 Cylinder
100 Neck Cords
3 Harness Cords are attached with 1 neck cord.

Main Parts for cylinder driving mechanism & working principle:

Paddle/ Treadle
Needle Crank
Connecting Rope
Griffe
Side Lever
Spring Box
Swan Neck
Needle Crank
Pattern Cylinder
Pattern Card
Hook
Grid Bar
Knife
Neck Cord
Needle
Harness Cord
Comber Board
Top/ Tug Board
Upper Coupling
Mail Eye
Lower Coupling
Dead Weight
Heald Wire

Working Principle:
i) The pattern cylinder is perforated and oscillates during shedding.
ii) The knives from the griffe (Which are all fastened together) are moved up and down simultaneously.
iii) When there is a hole in the card, the needle enters to the hole of the cylinder and the hook engaged with a
knife.
iv) When knife moves upward, hook also moves upward and the harness cord associated with it also moves
upward. Thus a lifting of the warp threads occurs.
v) When the card is blank, due to the oscillating movement of the cylinder it will push the opposite needle.
vi) Then the needle squeezes the spring and the hooks moves away from the knife. Thats why, no lifting occurs.
vii) Bottom line of warp is maintained or is produced by cylinder dead weights which is technically.

Driving Mechanism:

Conclusion:
Jacquard loom is slower than Tappet Dobby loom. It is far superior in capacity to a Dobby/Tappet loom. But any type
of fabric can be made by this. The mechanism of its cylinder drive is very important. This will also help to
understand the working principle of this loom.
