The Parts of an Outline

An outline is split in several parts, and all of them serve an important purpose in it. The
first part of an outline is the introduction, where the topic and the thesis statement are
located. The topic is what you are going to write about through your entire monography,
and the thesis statement is the reason why you are writing your monography. Next on
goes the body. Inside the body go the headings, which are the general topics inside of
your thesis that you will develop in your piece of writing. But one must have in mind
that there must be at least two. Inside each heading there can be subheadings, which are
more specific subtopics you can develop. Just like the headings there cannot be only
one, you either have to write none or more than one. Once you have developed all of the
topics and subtopics you wanted to, you can proceed to the conclusion. In the
conclusion you are meant to re-state the topic and the thesis statement in a different,
paraphrased way. It is important to know the parts of an outline before you write it so
you can do it properly and get the most out of it.
