THE ROUTE 23 MUSIC FESTIVAL KICKS OFF ON AUGUST 29

The Birthplace of Country Music to stage free concert in Wise, Va.

July 22, 2015 (Bristol, Tenn. / Va.) The Route 23 Music Festival returns to the
campus of the University of Virginias College at Wise on Saturday, Aug. 29. The free
festival brings a diverse mix of artists together for a full day of live music thats off
the beaten path.
The RTE 23 Music Festival has its origins back in February of 2009, when The Bristol
Rhythm & Roots Concert Series at UVa-Wise hosted its first show in the colleges
student center. The goal then and now was simple: bring the best Americana
bands possible to music lovers in Southwest Virginia.
Since the series began, there have been several venues in Wise that have hosted an
array of outstanding musicians including St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Folk Soul
Revival, The Black Lillies, Yarn, The Corduroy Road, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, The
New Familiars, Dave Eggar, Amber Rubarth, and Last Train Home.
RTE 23 returns this year with another impressive line-up including The London
Souls, Desert Noises, this mountain, and Wayne Graham. The event will include
family activities, events geared toward college students, and an official after party
with Wayne Graham at The Inn at Wise. The event will also feature local food and
crafts as well as the Wolf Hills Brewing Company beer garden.
The music will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the after party with Wayne Graham will begin
at 10 p.m. For more information about the festival, visit

###
The London Souls
The London Souls unique reinterpretation of classic hard-hitting rock and roll
formulae recalls elements of the past with an ever-present boundless energy, fit to
cement their place in the future. Tash and Chris have been nothing short of a bestkept secret among New York City concertgoers since the bands formation in 2008,
building a fervent and dynamic fan base leveraged by their ever sustained
reputation for consistently well-rehearsed and impassioned, explosive live
performances. The bands celebrated sound and spirit draws significant influence
from the driving force of British rock pioneers Cream and Led Zeppelin to billowing
and bouncing funk and soul, to the layered harmonies and memorable hooks of The
Beatles and The Hollies, to the contemporary psychedelia of My Morning Jacket
among many more. For more information on the band, check

Desert Noises
The name Desert Noiseslike many of the bands songs on their debut full-length
27 Wayscame out of a dream that popped into front-man Kyle Hendersons head
while sleeping. I just woke up and wrote it down on a piece of paper, says the 24year-old, Henderson, who is joined in the band by fellow twenty-something cohorts
in bassist Tyler Osmond (yes, those Osmonds), guitar-shredder Patrick Boyer, and
drummer Brennan Allen. Four years of virtual non-stop touring has certainly
reaped the band just rewards. Stops along the way have included the prestigious
Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, Texas, and LouFest in St. Louis, Missouri. Desert
Noises spent much of 2014 on the road in support of 27 Ways, the bands
debut record. The record drew praise from Relix magazine, who profiled the band in
their On The Verge section in June of last year, and Desert Noises performed Follow
You Out on CBS This Mornings Saturday Sessions. For more information on Desert
Noises, visit www.desertnoises.com.
this mountain
this mountain hails from Johnson City, Tennessee, and have been making music
together since 2010. The bands four song EP in 2011 was followed by Future Ghost
in 2012 and last years Still Waters, a project funded in part by the bands fans. this
mountain composed of Matt Martin on guitar, Andrew Gibbens on drums, Patrick
Taylor on banjo, Zach Chandley on guitar, Cody Ledford on cello, and Taylor Green
on bass - has taken the stage at festivals like Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion,

Wayne Graham
Wayne Graham is an alt-rock/Americana band from southeast Kentucky made up of
brothers, Hayden and Kenny Miles. Their sound is eclectic yet familiar; a
combination that resonates with young and old listeners alike. It has been said that
they both are old souls and that comes through clearly in their music. The two
brothers started making music very early on. Growing up in a musical family, they
learned a little from everyone, and named themselves after their grandfathers,
Wayne Miles and Graham Kincer. For more information on Wayne Graham, visit
