Batch Characteristic Inheritance

Use
This function enables the inheritance of batch characteristic values from a source batch during
material movements.

In this context batch characteristic inheritance refers to the inheritance of batch

characteristics across batches, not inheritance from a material master.
Batch characteristic inheritance is available only for class types 022 (batch unique at
plant level) and 023 (batch unique at material level and at client level for a material).
In movement types that involve the specification of a source batch and target batch (for example, a
goods transfer movement from one batch location to another), the system follows standard
functionality.

Scenarios
Batch characteristic inheritance applies to process orders, production orders, and subcontract
purchase orders in the following goods movement scenarios:

Goods receipt for process orders and process order splits

Goods receipt for production orders and production order splits

Goods issue reversal for process and production orders

Goods receipt for subcontract orders

Stock transfers

One-step interplant stock transfers

Two-step interplant stock transfers

Stock transport orders

Without delivery
With delivery via shipping
With delivery and billing document (invoice)

Rules
The following rules apply:

For new target batches, common batch characteristic values from the source batch are copied
to the target batch
For existing target batches, batch characteristic values of the target batch are not overwritten

Batch characteristic inheritance between batches only works when the source and the
target batch numbers are available in the same movement type.

Example
Batch A001 (Material A) and Batch B001 (Material B) have the following characteristics:
Batch

Material

Characteristic

A001

Material A

Wafer Supplier
Wafer Lot Number
Shelf Location
Wafer Fab. Location

B001

Material B

Wafer Supplier
Assembly Location
Assembly Supplier Code
Wafer Lot Number
Material Date Code

During goods receipt (Movement type 101) from Batch A001 for material A to a new batch B001 for
material B, the common characteristic values will be inherited as follows

In Customizing, if foreground processing is selected for movement type 101the inherited

characteristic values for Batch B001 are displayed. This process allows you to change
the values during movement recording.
If background processing is selected in Customizing, the characteristics are populated in
the background, and the values may be changed later by accessing the individual batch
records.
Batch header characteristic values (for example, vendor batch) are inherited in the same
way.
Can some one please let me know the tables and logic used to retrieve the material batch characterisitcs. These
include the physical, chemical, metallurgy etc. found on the classification tab of material master.
Answer
Based on material you need to find out internal characteristic number from CABN and for each of these number
you can get characteristic values from AUSP.
Tables like STKO,STPO,MARA & MAST might be useful for you in this process.
