Fingerprinting (DOJ) and Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance

All volunteers that serve more than 16 hours per week, over the course of the school
year, or as defined by the activities example table above, are subject to a background
clearance through fingerprinting by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI. The
purpose of the background check is to insure that a person is permitted by law to
participate in a school setting as a volunteer.
Adult Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance can be completed in two ways. Your physician can
complete and sign the Risk Assessment Questionnaire, which will waives the requirement
to take an actual TB Test. Alternatively, you can complete a TB test and cleared within
the past 60 days. No volunteer shall be assigned to provide supervision or instruction of
students unless he/she has submitted evidence of TB clearance within the past 60 days
to determine that he/she is free of active tuberculosis. Volunteers who test negative shall
thereafter be required to take a TB test every four years in accordance with Education
Code 49406. (Education Code 45106, 45347, 45349, 49406 & Health and Safety Code
121545)
