TWO SAMOHI MUSICIANS REPRESENT CALIFORNIA IN THE AMERICAN STRING

TEACHERS ASSOCIATION NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL HONOR ORCHESTRA
Santa Monica High School students Emily Wong and Matthew Van Pelt, Concertmaster and Principal
Violist of the Santa Monica High School (Samohi) Symphony Orchestra, respectively, have successfully
auditioned for and have been accepted to the 2010 National High School Honor Orchestra.

ASTA (American String Teachers Association), in partnership with NSOA (National School Orchestra
Association), competitively selects the most talented young musicians from school orchestras in each
state to create the National High School Honors Orchestra. This prestigious ensemble meets biennially
and performs in a national showcase. NSOA will convene from February 18 through February 20 in
Santa Clara, California.

The Santa Monica High School Orchestra program, founded in 1903, is extremely proud of Emily and
Matthew for illustrating the high caliber of students that come from Samohi, its orchestras, the City of
Santa Monica, and the State of California.
