Atherosclerosis is a complex chronic disease characterized by the
accumulation of lipids within arterial walls. Accumulation of total cholesterol and
LDL in the long term can form plaques that can increase the thickness of the
walls of blood vessels. Flavonoids, isoflavones, vitamin C and vitamin E
contained in soy milk play a role in inhibiting the oxidation of fats, especially to
inhibit the oxidation of LDL cholesterol in the blood. The aim of study was to
determine the effect of soy milk to the thickness of aortic wall of white rat with
high fatty diet. This true experimental laboratoric study using control group post
test design performed in white rat that placed in Physiology laboratory Medical
Faculty of Brawijaya University. Sampling was carried out by completely random
sampling with 25 rats for total sample. The results of statistical analysis using
One Way ANOVA showed no significant differences between groups, but the
results of the descriptive analysis showed a tendency to decrease the thickness
of the vessel wall of the aorta with increasing doses of milk soybeans.
