Graded Worksheet C4

Name: _____________________

For pig farmers in Kansas, researchers are interested in the education level of the farmer. A study
ten years ago had indicated that 48% of all Kansas pig farmers had a college degree. Is there
evidence to indicate that this has changed in the past ten years?
1. To answer the question, the researchers sample 262 randomly chosen pig farmers, and
find that 144 have a college degree. Do the complete analysis, including correctly stating the
hypotheses, calculating the test statistic and p-value, giving a graph in which the area
corresponding to the p-value is shaded, and answering these two questions by circling the answer.
At = 0.05, did they reject the null hypothesis? YES

NO

At = 0.05, is there evidence that the proportion has changed in the past ten years? YES

2. Use the data from problem 1 to give both a point estimate and a 99% confidence interval
for the proportion of all Kansas pig farmers today who do have a college education.
