Upon completion of the course, students, using the scientific method, will be able to:

Develop the necessary skills to solve everyday problems by critical thinking based on
scientific knowledge.
Make connections between different areas of science (chemistry, biology and physics)
Understand the three key concepts of IB science: Systems, changes and relationships. .

The final exam is mandatory and it is a cumulative exam, which covers materials from the entire
semester and it is 2 hours long. The minimum grade to pass the exam and course is 70%.
EXTEMPORANEOUS EXAMS WILL HAVE HIGHER LEVEL OF DIFFICULT.
Limit of Absences in L classes
If average is lower than 83 6 absences maximum

COURSE
POLICIES
1. Class must begin at the hour sharply. The teacher will allow 5 minutes of tolerance for the students to
come in. THERE ARE NO DELAYS.
2. Absences are not justified for any reason.
3. For partial and final exams, the tolerance for entry is 5 minutes. Once this time has passed, the student
will not be allowed to do the exam.
4. If for any reason the student leaves the classroom with no justification, he wont be allowed to come back
in and he will have an absence.
5. The student will loose his/her right to a final evaluation if he/she exceeds the permitted number of
absences. (2 weeks of classes during the semester.)
6. If by the end of the SECOND partial the students average is the same as or higher than 83, he/she will
have the right to an extra week of abscesses.
7. The absences for students in representative teams must be authorized by the corresponding direction.
8. According to the dispositions by the Direction of Programs, in case of absence for a provable reason, the
student may turn in projects and homeworks of the corresponding subject in a period of maximum three
days, after doing the corresponding paper work. In case the absence can be justified by the institution, the
student must go the following day of his abscense to the Department of Seguimiento Acadmico to
process a written proof (justificante), having a period of 3 days to complete the process. If the absence
occurs on the final 3 days of school, if they are justified, the class work, projects and homeworks due may
be turned in the day of the final exam.
9. In case the teacher does not get to class 15 minutes after the hour, students MUST inform to Prof.
Elizabeth Viernes. (elizabeth.viernes@itesm.mx)
Evaluation Policies
1. The MINIMAL APPROBATORY grade is 70 (SEVENTY).
2. The partial exams will be held on the previously marked dates. For no reason will there be a change in
dates.
3. The partial exams have a maximum duration of 50 minutes; final exams can last up to 2 hours.
4. For NO REASON WHATSOEVER students are allowed to exempt any exam.
5. Extemporaneous exams will be departmental.
Discipline
1. Electronic devices (cell phones, tablets and lap tops) must remain turned off in the classroom, unless the
teacher tells you otherwise. UNDER NO CIRCUMSATNCES IS THE USE OF THESE DEVICES
ALLOWED IN AN EXAM.
2. The copy of someone elses work, non-permitted material and not quoting the bibliographical sources for
every piece of work you turn in will be sanctioned with a DA. (Academic Dishonesty). The student that has
a DA in his/her records will not be allowed to participate on an International Program, or receive de
Honors diploma. For students that are candidates to graduate, they will not be allowed to do their ER
(Regularization Exam).
3. Any show of disrespect to teachers, classmates or campus personnel will be sanctioned according to the
Students General Regulations
4. The student may not interrupt class for any reason.
5. The student may not interrupt class to deliver homeworks or projects.
