Problem Set #2
SOLUTION
Date: 29-May-14

PROBLEM 2.1:
The setup was:
Lets begin by setting the input to a 4-second pulse x(t) = u(t) u(t 4). We will use this x(t)
throughout the remainder of this problem.
We didnt bother to take screenshots when making this solution set, but the shapes you should
have seen are described below in italics.
(a) A 2-second pulse with amplitude 12 , i.e., h(t) = 12 {u(t)

u(t

(b) A 4-second pulse with amplitude 14 , i.e., h(t) = 14 {u(t)

u(t

2)}.

This will give a length 6 trapezoid, with a flat top of length 2, and ramp up and ramp
down regions, each of length 2. It will have a maximum of 2 (1 1/2) = 1.
4)}.

This will give a length 8 triangle, with a maximum of 4 (1 1/4) = 1.

(c) A shifted impulse, i.e., h(t) = (t

3).

This just shifts the rectangle by 3, so the result is a rectangle of length 4 with a height of 1.
