This section of Secondary V English is worth three credits. The course focuses
on the following:
1. Mapping, researching, presenting, typing, and formatting a 1500 - 2000
word research paper on a topic of your choice
2. Discovering, assessing, and documenting source material
3. Identifying, studying, applying, and discussing key terms
4. Developing speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills
5. Sharpening critical thinking and analysis
Exam Breakdown and Exam Values (Dates TBA):
Speaking Exam (PowerPoint Presentation): 15%
Listening Exam: 20%
Writing Exam (Research Paper): 35% (typed, printed, and stapled)
Reading Exam: 30%
Writing Assignments:
Please note: you must complete these assignments in order to write the
exams, and you must type, print, and staple all assignments.
Upcoming assignments:
Annotated Bibliography (6-8 sources)
Research Paper Abstract (Summary)

Additional Notes
- You must complete assignments every class.
- Keep all your work up to date and in your folder.

- This section of Secondary V English will require the completion of


homework. You will be expected to work on your research papers both in
class and at home, and you will have to make trips to the library.

- Attendance is mandatory. If you miss too many classes, you wont be
permitted to write the final exams.
- You must complete assignments every class.
- Keep all your work up to date and in your folder.

Class Rules:
1. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. Please show up on timepunctuality is
important.
2. Attendance is mandatory. 80% attendance is required to write your exams.
Arriving late or leaving early counts as half an absence.
3. No text messaging in class. Keep all electronic devices put away unless
they are needed for a classroom activity.
4. No food in class.
5. You can sit where youd like, but if things arent working out, Ill assign
seats.
