Atmosphere is it is a band of gases enveloping the
Earth's surface. The atmosphere is a mixture of nitrogen (78%), oxygen (21%), and other gases (1%) that surrounds Earth. High above the planet, the atmosphere becomes thinner until it gradually reaches space. It is divided into five layers. There are 5 layers of the atmosphere: Troposphere, Mesosphere, Stratosphere, Thermosphere, and Exosphere.
The troposphere ( about 9-10 km) is the lowest layer of
Earth's atmosphere. In the troposphere, the temperature decreases as the altitude increases. The troposphere contains most of the water vapour that is why weather occurs in this layer . The stratosphere is the second-lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere. In the stratosphere, the temperature increases. It lies above the troposphere. This layer extends from the top of the troposphere at roughly 12 km above Earth's surface. In this layer, we could find the The mesosphere is the third highest layer of Earth's atmosphere . In the mesosphere, the temperature
decreases as height increases. It extends from the
stratopause at an altitude of about 50 km. The mesosphere is also the layer where most meteors burn up upon atmospheric entrance. The thermosphere is the second-highest layer of Earth's atmosphere. It extends from the mesopause at an altitude range of about 415 km. In this layer, the temperature increases gradually. Auroras are found in this layer. The exosphere is the outermost layer of Earth's atmosphere. It extends from the exobase at an altitiude range of 500- 1000 km . In this layer the gradual increase in temperature with altitude continues. This layer merges into space. Satellites are located in this layer.
