MOONBOTS 2015 ChandraBots Robot Game Design

Our team, ChandraBots, predicts that the future of moon exploration and living will take
advantage of drones and other aerial technologies to avoid the inhospitable terrain and to reduce
the human footprint on the lunar surface. Therefore, our robot game design is based on a flying
robot. Since it is hard to make an EV3 fly, we created a raised platform 4 inches above the
footprint to depict the flight path of an aerial robot. Our mission models are designed and located
in strategic areas, taking advantage of the geology of the lunar landscape.
Time limit: 5 minutes.
Penalty Rules:
1. Robot should be autonomous once the game starts.
2. Every time the robot is touched while it is outside the base: (-5 points).
3. Every time the robot drops people outside the designated safe locations: (-5 points).
4. If the robot fails to return to the base within 5 minutes: (-5 points).
Task Rules:
1. Dismount from base: The aerial robot lowers the ramp and descends. (10 points)
2. Pick up at main hub: The aerial robot picks up a person from the main hub airport. (10
points)
3. Drop off at the Observatory Platform: The aerial robot drops off the person at the
observatory platform. (10 points)
4. Activate the Elevator: The aerial robot activates the Observatory Elevator that raises the
observatory platform to take the scientist up to the Observatory. (10 points)
5. Fix Earth-Moon-Earth Communication Antenna: The aerial robot pushes the red flag
to raise the amplifying reflector antenna for E-M-E Communication. (10 points)
6. Cut the ice: The aerial robot activates the ultrasonic sensor to start the ice cutter. (10
points)
7. Pick up the Ice: The aerial robot picks up the cut ice from the ice cutter. (10 points)
8. Deliver the ice: The aerial robot delivers the ice to the processing plant. (10 points)
9. Start rock-mining machine and collect mined rocks: The aerial robot starts the rockmining machine, collects the mined rocks in a basket and picks up the basket. (30 points)
10. Drop the rocks: The aerial robot drops the contents of the basket on the conveyor belt at
the Mineral Analysis Station. (10 points)
11. Activate the drones and conveyor belt: The aerial robot activates the sensor that
triggers the mineral analysis conveyor belt to start and the drone to transport hydrogen
from ice processing plant to the nuclear power plant. (10 points)
12. Transport nuclear fuel: The aerial robot pushes the lever to signal the nuclear fuel
delivery trucks to transport nuclear fuel to the outer space exploration center. (10 points)
13. Activate outer space exploration: The aerial robot activates the switch to turn on the
rocket launcher and position the outer space communication antenna. (10 points)
14. Pick up from local airport: The aerial robot picks up a person from the local airport
outside the caves. (10 points)
15. Drop off at main hub: The aerial robot drops off a person at the main hub. (10 points)
16. Pick up food: The aerial robot picks up food from the Greenhouse. (10 points)
17. Drop off food: The aerial robot drops off food at the local airport near the caves. (10
points)
18. Return to the base: The aerial robot goes up the ramp and returns to the base. (10
points)
