Reflection Paper #2
What if I have a long lost twin and my parents are not telling it to me? What if sometimes
she's the one talking to my friends and studying in my school? These are the questions that
bothered my mind after my friend shared "Comedy of Errors".
Comedy of Errors is actually a play written by William Shakespeare. It is considered one
of the shortest play with 16 258 words. The story took place in Ephesus which we call Turkey
nowadays. The story is about two twins who were separated by a shipwreck. The twins' names
are Antipholus of Ephesus, Antipholus of Syracuse, Dromio of Ephesus and Dromio of Syracuse.
Antipholus of Ephesus is with Dromio of Ephesus and the like. Since they have the same names,
they are just recognized in the place they lived in.
While my friend narrates the plot, confusions came along the way. I don't know who's
who. Maybe the reason for this was I haven't read the story.
It taught me a moral that simple mistakes make bigger problems. In the story, people
mistaken the twins and simple conversations between them confused them a lot. There are times
that Dromio of Syracuse thought that he was talking with Antipholus of Syracuse, but the truth is
he's talking with Antipholus of Ephesus. I can't help but to laugh when my friend was saying
parts of the play which is like that.
I can say that this one is different. It caught my attention and though confusions are there,
the author was able to make it a comedy piece. But still, there are weaknesses that even us can't
avoid.
To sum up, Comedy of Errors is not that great, not that bad. It is not about how good or
bad it is, it depends on how it was able to touch the lives of the readers.
