Event Information
Primary School Team Challenge
During May we hosted the annual
Primary School Team Challenge.
Fourteen teams from around the
North Harbour region had a great
day of competition with Milford Primary not losing
any ties and rightfully named 2015 Primary Team
Challenge Champions. Congratulations to each
school that participated in this successful event.
X-TRM National Championships 2015
Badminton North Harbour was the venue host for
the X-TRM National Championships. The three
days of badminton played over Queens Birthday
weekend showcased the best badminton players
from around New Zealand.

North Harbour 13 Open

The North Harbour u13 Open was played on Sunday
24 May and saw a record entry of 65 players.
North Harbour players were very prominent in this
tournament and represented their association well.
Congratulations to Shaunna Li for winning the girls
doubles. This age group is continuously growing
and will be run over a full weekend in 2016.

Local Derby
The North Harbour junior representative teams
have participated in the Local Derby competition.
As a trial this year the ties were played over one
weekend to see if the format was better for players, coaches, managers and supporters instead of
the past format of 4 or 5 Sundays. A review will
take place to determine the format in the future.
This was a great build up to the X-TRM New Zealand

North Harbour Closed Championships

This year has seen an increase in the number of
players participating in the North Harbour Closed
Championships. We have set up the event to have
the finals all played on one night, 31 August with
Court 12 open for food and drinks and we encourage people to come down and watch some exciting
finals.

Inter-association Age Group Championships in Palmerston North.

Development News
This season has been a great time
for Badminton North Harbour, our
holiday programmes were at capacity in both morning and afternoon
sessions with some great new talent
appearing at them. From this we have had many
of the children come back wanting more badminton, which is great to see.

We look forward to seeing more children getting involved in

badminton and enjoying themselves while playing.

We have been delivering to a number of schools

throughout recent months ranging from Level 3
NCEA classes to beginner classes. We have just
started delivering to Glamorgan Primary School
which is a 6 week programme running through
KiwiSport. This is getting delivered to years 1 to
years 6 and some of the kids have only just started school in Term 3.
Our next school Holiday Programme is October
6th 9th, and smash club will be starting up in
term 4.

Whats Up at the Pro-Shop

North Harbour Ladder Results

We have had a great few months in the shop. Restringing has certainly been keeping all the staff busy as we endeavor
to keep everyone on court with their equipment in top condition. Please feel free to discuss appropriate string and
tension as it is certainly an important aspect of racquet performance. All our staff are players and will be happy to talk
with you on what is best.

SINGLES LADDER

Yonex continues to offer a number of great options in racquets, clothing and footwear with the 2015 range going really
well. Popular racquet models include Arc Saber 11, Nanoray 800 and Voltric 80 E-Tune.

High Performance Update

We have just completed a range of
age group tournaments. We had
good results with many NH players
reaching finals. The National team
event in Palmerston North had 60
North Harbour players competing and
the result was quite good considering it was some of
the players first time to attend. Instead of nerves and
tension they showed a die hard attitude and good
teamwork to help each other in order to win the
matches.
The junior development program has started their
Term 3 training session. We have more than 40 players attending this squad. We managed to produce
some new representative players who played well for
North Harbour in Local Derby and the X-TRM New
Zealand Inter-association Championships.
We also have a young squad 11 years old and below,
who train once a week (we will add more training
session in the future) to help North Harbour junior
development for the future. To give this group more
tournament experience we have Junior singles ladder
for them to compete in.

Junior Reps Results

At the moment we are preparing for Division 1 and 2

(Wisden and Slazenger Cup). These teams compete in
Invercargill on August 18 to 22nd.
In order to prepare the players we have Premier
League to give the players a tournament environment.
Once again a big thank you to our coaches, managers
and especially parent helpers who willingly spent
their time to accompany their children to Palmerston
North to cheer and prepare their food during the
tournament.

CONGRATULATIONS TO NORTH HARBOUR 3

Badminton New Zealand this year changed the event that has in the past been the North Island Championships in
Palmerston North. It is now the National Championships with not only u15 & u17 age groups, but u13 & u19.
This meant more teams, players, coaches, managers and team helpers. North Harbour teams did extremely well
with four of our six teams on the podium.
