Your Monologue
William Thornhill
Outside: Large, angry, frustrated
that the aboriginals are stealing your
corn
Inside: emotional turmoil I need to
scare the Darugs away so they stop
steeling however, I do not really
want to kill them (afraid, hesitant,
confused, impulsive, frustrated)
Thornhills Point
Corn fields
How can you create this setting in
your monologue? (corn, PRETEND
weapon like a ruler or something? To
represent the gun)
Clothes etc image of cornfields in
the background on projector?
Lead up: Pages 278 - 281
Will fires a gun at one of the Darugs
as they are stealing the corn
You are Will explaining yourself to
Sal. Sal is displeased with Will
because he used the gun. She is also
frustrated as she wants to leave and
live in the more civilised Wilberforce
area. You are explaining that you are
doing all of this for her and the
children. To make their lives better.
You only used the gun to scare the
Indigenous people.
You want Sal to understand that
Thornhills Point is an opportunity for
them to earn money and become
members of the gentry.
You are protecting your family for the
savages

Threatening the Darug people

Cannot control rage that they are
able to do less work but are more
successful in terms of getting food
and farming. In addition, you resent
how they take your crops because it
is such hard work boiling sun,
physical labour, and wake up at
dawn to start work.

You are extremely anxious that the

Darugs are going to hurt your family.

Sal threatens to

You become

frustrated and
become enraged
because she
cannot see that

You promise
Sal that you
will not
behave the
way that
Smasher
Sullivan does
and you start
to coax her to
come round
Basically, you
are really nice
to her so she
forgives you
and you refer
to London and
Thames.
Take the
approach that
they are not
returning to
London but we
will have
everything we
had there and
more. E.g. Our
kids have a
roof over our
heads, food in
their bellies
not like
London we
were begging
