Essential Questions throughout the Semester:

In what ways does the math we are learning relate to real life?
Are there different ways to go about solving problems?
Why is learning math important?
Assessment methods:
Each unit will consist of a Unit Exam. These unit exams will have a variety of question types,
namely multiple choice, short answer, long answer and numerical response. Formative
assessment will be very important on a daily basis. I will check homework daily, as well as ask
questions to the students. I will also use sentio clickers and whiteboards on a daily basis as a
way to assess the students and move forward or back track as needed. There will be weekly
quizzes as well as assignments to do for each unit. Throughout the semester, students will be
completing a math 10 portfolio. This portfolio will include evidence to reaching each of the SLOs
mentioned above. They will include samples of their work and set goals for themselves. As the
year progresses they will reassess their goals and make changes to them as needed. Students
will also do weekly journal entries in their portfolio. The portfolio will mainly be for assessment as
learning for students to take responsibility for their learning. I will take them in after each unit
and give them feedback on their portfolio. Students will also complete 3 performance tasks
throughout the semester that are culminating tasks of all the objectives. Students will use
project based learning to discover new mathematical terms and quantities. All of this will make
sure that each objective from the program of studies is assessed in more than one place.
