Colaizzi's (1978) method of data analysis consists of seven steps:

1. Read and re read all the participants' verbatim transcripts of the phenomena
in orer to acquire a feeling for them.
2. Significant statements or phrases are extracted from participants' transcript
s pertaining directly to the research phenomena.
3. Formulated meanings are constructed from the significant statements.
4. Formulates meanings are arranges into clusters themes which evolve into emerg
ent themes.
5. Incorporation of the results into a rich and exhaustive description of the li
ved experience.
6. Validation of the exhaustive description from the participants involved in th
e research.
7. Incorporation of any new or pertinent data obtained from participants' valida
tion, and adapted to attain congruence with the lived experience of the particip
ants' studied.
