RE: Endorsement Questionnaire for NYS Senate

1.Why are you seeking this office?

To provide progressive leadership and provide progressive policies in Albany.

2. Why are you seeking the endorsement of the Stonewall Democrats of WNY?

I have been a. strong champion of GLBT issues. On the Buffalo Common Council I sponsored the Gender Identity Law. In the NYS Senate, 1 am a co-sponsor of various pieces of legislation that protect the rights of the GLBT community. J have been a dues paying member of the Stonewall Democrats for more than five years.

3. What three issues do you consider to be most important to the people served by the office you seek'!

The issues that I consider to be most important to the community I serve are social, economic, environmental and racial justice. I am the Prime sponsor on over 60 bills in this current session and a co-sponsor on over two hundred and twenty. Many of those pieces of legislation address many of the issues I have just identified.

4. What three civil rights issues do you perceive to be the most important to the gny, lesbian, bisexual, and transgcnder community?

1. Equal Employment

2. Fair Rights to Housing

3. Anti-Discrimination in Education

Whenever I have the opportunity to pursue legislation or policy that positively affects these issues, I take it.

If I am asked to nominate or vote for a member of the GLBT who would be suitable for public office, I will do so. 1 am a strong proponent of dean elections which includes the GLBT community.
