Vision Statement
A vision statement should inform my principal, students and parents of my
students how I intend to run my classroom. Therefore I will begin by telling you that
it is my mission to successfully reach every child I touch and enhance their personal
growth and comprehension skill set. I will teach them the necessary skills to not
only achieve success on their state exams, but to be successful throughout their
lives with every day obstacles that they face. By teaching them to be good thinkers
and lifelong learners I will help my students be self sufficient and reliable.
By using multiple response strategies I will be able to follow my students
understanding and make them feel involved in what we are doing. I will check for
understanding and allow them to discuss their answers with their peers to develop
better understanding. I will allow them to think, pair, and share their ideas to get
other points of view. This will teach them to defend their answers with facts and
examples. I will have them use dry erase boards to provide simultaneous class wide
response to my questions. My students will feel confident in their decision making
and they will be active participants in their own education.
When it comes to making an impact on the children of my class I go with the
quote of Stephen Krash: No single literacy activity has a more positive effect on
students comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, spelling, writing ability, and
overall academic achievement than free voluntary reading- Stephen Krashen Book
Whisperer. By utilizing a twenty minute silent reading block in my class the
students will be allowed to enter realms of their imagination with silent sustained
reading. Not only will this enhance their imagination, but it will also fuel their

literacy comprehension and understanding of how a story flows and how to utilize
the textual evidence to solve problems.
My students will feel comfortable in my classroom and they will not be afraid to
try. I will manage this by allowing the students to participate in an environment that
will allow for consequence free mistakes. No student will be ridiculed or laughed at
for giving a wrong answer. They will be instilled with the courage and belief that
their answers and opinions are viable and will help enhance the learning within our
classroom. This is supported by the book Teaching With The Brain In Mind: Making
mistakes is key to developing intelligence.
My students will use kinesthetic movement to enhance the learning experience.
It is a proven fact that many students learn by movement. Therefore, in my class
my students will engage in manipulative practice and usage of eye hand
coordination to aid in the solution of their problems. Many play oriented
movements have the capacity to improve cognition. Not only can my students act
out there favorite stories in books that we read, but they can also use math
manipulatives to solve things such as fractions and patterns. This will also burn off
excessive energy and help them to relax and focus better on their assignments.
By reaching my students regardless of their ability level or socio-economical
background I will empower all of them to achieve success and reach their personal
goals. I want to be the teacher that my kids will remember for the rest of their lives.
By caring and being consistent and supportive my students will find the anchor they
need to launch their ships on a fantastic voyage through life. I want to be that
beacon that guides them to safer shores. I want to be the best teacher I can be.
