Thetargetaudienceiscomposedofcertifiedteachersofvaryingages,certificationlevelsand
experience.Thetargetaudienceteachesorprovideseducationalsupporttostudentsingrades
PreKindergartenthroughfifthgradeintheJacksonCountySchoolDistrict.Theagesofthe
studentstheyteachrangefrom4yearsto11yearsold.

AsstatedinthemissionofJacksonCountysInformationServices&Technology,
The
TechnologyDepartmentrelentlesslystrivestoprovideatechnologicallyenhancedlearningand
workingenvironmentforstudents,teachers,administrationandparents,thestakeholders,of
JacksonCountySchools.Districtleadersresearchedandplannedthroughthesummermonths
anddecideduponseveralnewresourcesthatwouldbeuseddistrictwide.Icreatedaneeds
assessmentsurveyandsentitouttoelementaryteachersat2schools,EastJacksonElementary
andSouthJacksonElementary.Thesurveylistedthenewresourcesandaskedteacherstorank
theimportanceofneedforthenewresourcesacquiredbythedistrict.Aneedforprofessional
developmentforalltheresourcesisnecessary,buttheresourceteachersstatedthegreatestneed
forprofessionaldevelopmentinbothschoolswasGoogleAppsforEducation.Theteachersare
atmanylevelswhenitcomestotheirknowledgeofGoogleApps.Thisstaffdevelopmentis
targetedtowardsthoseteachersthatneedprofessionaldevelopmentintheverybasicsofthe
applications.

TaskAnalysis
IresearchedGoogleAppsforEducation(GAFE)tutorials.Ithenreflectedonthetarget
audienceandgoalsforthisinstructionalunit.Thegoalistogiveteachersthebackground
knowledgeandreasonswhyusingthesetoolswillhelptoenhancetheirowncollaborationwith
othereducatorsaswellaswiththeirstudents.Inorderforteacherstofeelcomfortableusing
GAFEwiththeirstudents,theymustfirstlearnhowtousetheapplicationsfortheirown
collaborationpurposes.Thisisthemaingoalforthisstaffdevelopment.Afterlearningand
applyingtheapplicationsthemselves,teacherswillbemorelikelytobeginusingitwiththeir
students.
