BUNCTION AND PERFORMANCE OF REGULATION 3.1.1. General The regulation system is designed to ensure the stability of the ship's power supply system voltage during network load variations. 3.1.2. The voltage regulator associated with each AC generator ensures the following characteristics. 3.1.2.1. Steady_ oper: For any no-load adjustment of frequency between 48,5 and 51,5 Nz, at voltage between 360 and 400 V for any load between zero and rated current. a) Shutdown compensation device with a power factor between 0,6 and 0,9, the voltage is held constant to + 1$ of the no-load voltage, without modification of initial settings. b) In service compensation device with a power factor of 0,8, the voltage is held to + 38 of the no-load voltage. OPERATING PRINCIPLE OF EXCITER AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR 3.2.1. Operating principle of brushless AC generators, the d.c. current to be fed to the rotor of the main generator is produced by an intermediate electric machine called the exciter. The exciter may be compared with an exciter generator with salient poles (with a stationary field and mobile armature) : it feeds the main generator rotor by means of a bridge rectifier (figure 1). yey Sly The extiter field and main generator rotor are wedged on the same shaft, the bridge rectifier and connection cables are also integral with this rotating section, enabling the elimination of slip rings, brushes and sliding contacts.
