Lesson: Fluency: the students

did a fluency lesson. They
were given a short story with
different phrases. We listened
to a man on tape read through
the phrases and then we read
the phrases with them.
Afterwards, I had the students
read through the phrases on
their own and highlight any
ones they were unsure of. We
then reviewed them. Before I
had the students do their
minute reads of the story, we
discussed the different aspects
of being a fluent reader:
accuracy, pace, and
expression.

Lesson: Fluency: the students

did a fluency lesson. They
were given a short story with
different phrases. We read
through the story once as a
refresher. Then we focused on
the mood of the story in
different pieces. Fluency
always focuses on one aspect
of reading. Today, it was
mood. We read each
paragraph and decided the
mood of each.
