FOOD / PRODUCT LABEL PROJECT Name ____________________________________________ Period ____ In On ____

( Major Grade)
DUE DATE WINDOW __________________
Now that you have learned how to write formulas using the periodic table and the polyatomic ions list, you should be able to identify certain
ingredients product labels.
NO LABELS ATTACHED = 50% is your maximum grade!

YOUR MISSION: collect enough food and product labels to have total of 5 different compounds which you can determine the
ingredients chemical formula and calculate quantities specified below using ONLY our periodic table & polyatomic ion list .
There should be NO names which cannot be found on our ORHS periodic table/ reference packet. For example, benzoate, lactate, citrate, and
stearate(among many more) are NOT on our list. These should NOT be found in any of your compounds of this project.
ATTACH THE FOOD LABELS TO page and staple them THIS PROJECT SHEET. (Tape a handwritten paper label to the can at home )

Suggested items (many others will work too!): cereal, vitamins, snacks, can foods, dry foods, drink bottle labels, cleaning material labels
(As needed to make your home happy with you----just cutting off the ingredient portion of the label is okay IF you write the product name by the
label attached to the project)
