Competency Reflection

Competency 001: The principal knows how to shape campus culture by facilitating
the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of
learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
This competency was address at the classroom level and I was able to learn about it
more through observations of a new administrative team on my campus. At the
class level, I work to create multiple communication avenues for myself and
parents, as well as hold several meeting to emphasize the vision of learning that is
present on the campus and in the classroom. The campus also began holding
monthly parent meetings to share our vision with the school community, as well as
help parents of students on the campus become acting stakeholders in the vision of
learning present on campus. I will continue to learn about this competency in my
role as part of the leadership team through participation in these meetings.
Competency 002: The principal knows how to communicate and collaborate with all
members of the school community, respond to diverse interests and needs, and
mobilize resources to promote student success.
During my internship, I have been able to be part of the campus leadership team as
the Literacy Lead Teacher on the campus and the chairperson for my grade level.
Through these roles I have been able to gain knowledge of new programs being
implemented throughout the district, and bring that knowledge back to my campus
to present and facilitate the implementation. I will continue to grow in this area by
participating in further professional development activities to master the programs
and continue to support the school community.
Competency 003: The principal knows how to act with integrity, fairness, and in an
ethical and legal manner.
I have learned about this competency through observation of the administration on
the campus. I have been lucky to have a mentor this semester that is very well
versed and knowledgeable in all aspect of the legal side of education. I have
observed many campus policy changes and revisions to support the integrity,
fairness, ethical, and legal aspects on campus. I will continue to learn about this
competency through observations and experience as part of the campus leadership
team.
Competency 004: The principal knows how to facilitate the design and
implementation of curricula and strategic plans that enhance teaching and learning;
ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, resources, and assessment; and
promote the use of varied assessments to measure student performance.
I have learned about this competency through professional development and
leadership opportunities on campus. I was given the responsibility of coaching
teachers through the implementation of a new literacy program on campus. I was
able to provide professional development support to teachers and offer coaching
strategies to enhance teaching and learning on campus. I plan to continue growth
in this area in my opportunities for teacher observations and coaching sessions on
campus.
Competency 005: The principal knows how to advocate, nurture, and sustain an

instructional program and a campus culture that are conducive to student learning
and staff professional growth.
Through my role as Literacy lead teacher and grade level chairperson I have been

well as help sustain the program by offering guidance to teachers who seek it. I will
grow in this area by continuing to offer support to teachers and developing myself
as an instructional leader through professional development.
Competency 006: The principal knows how to implement a staff evaluation and
development system to improve the performance of all staff members, select and
implement appropriate models for supervision and staff development, and apply the

attended 24 hours of training on the district staff evaluation program and
development system and am certified to implement appropriate models for
supervision and staff development. I will continue to learn and grow in this area as
an appraiser and instructional coach on campus.
Competency 007: The principal knows how to apply organizational, decisionmaking, and problem-solving skills to ensure an effective learning environment.
I learn about this competency through my everyday classroom and campus

competency as I observe the administration team on campus and their
organization, decision-making, and problem solving skills on the campus level.
Competency 008: The principal knows how to apply principles of effective
leadership and management in relation to campus budgeting, personnel, resource
utilization, financial management, and technology use.

observe the administrative team on campus to learn more about his competency.
Competency 009: The principal knows how to apply principles of leadership and
management to the campus physical plant and support systems to ensure a safe

As a teacher on the campus thus far, I have not had much experience in

and grow through experience and observation of the leadership team on the
campus.
