BREC to Dedicate a Playground for Adults at Greenwood Community Park
Public Invited to Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Movie in the Park
EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH Through a partnership among the Main Street (Baker) Pilot Club, Pilot
International and BREC, a motion wellness senior station has been installed in BRECs Greenwood Community
Park, 13350 Highway 19 in Baker, and BREC will host a ribbon cutting on Friday, November 6 at 5 p.m. to
dedicate the completion of the facility.
The first of its kind in Louisiana, the Xccent Motion Wellness System is a breakthrough product in the senior
fitness and rehabilitation industry, offering the following health benefits: stretching of the muscles, increased
range of motion, cardio respiratory, blood circulation, balance work, walking exercises, motor coordination,
hand-eye coordination, proprioception work (adapting feet to different surfaces), column exercises, muscle
strength work and adaptation to daily activities.
This new amenity compliments the many adult leisure activities and programs that are offered by BREC.
BRECs recreation department will provide classes designed to facilitate use of the equipment, utilize the
system for designing new adult leisure opportunities and even offer programs of interest to caregivers so that
they can be active as well.
The motion wellness system is developed to reduce seniors fall-related injuries by improving stability, balance
and coordination, and it provides opportunities for social interaction among those using the facility.
Children and adults can enjoy the evening together with Swiss Bliss Yogurt, Zumba and beginner Insanity
workout demonstrations, BREC on the Geaux (BRECs traveling recreation program) and a movie in the park
to follow the ribbon cutting for the showing of Annie.
Funding for the fitness equipment was provided through a generous donation from the Main Street (Baker) Pilot
Club, with the installation of the equipment, concreate walkways and rubber safety surfacing being funded and
installed by BREC.
The Pilot International Founders Fund was established to support the community-based work of Pilot Clubs by
helping to underwrite club efforts in serving the areas of Youth Development & Leadership, Brain Safety &
Fitness and Caring for Families in Times of Need. Through the Pilot International Founders Fund, Pilot
International and its local Pilot Clubs are able to improve the lives of others through education,
volunteerism, financial support and research.
For more information on the Greenwood motion wellness ribbon cutting, contact the BREC Volunteer and
Special Events Manager Monica Dugas at 225-272-9200, ext. 446 or mdugas@brec.org.
It is BRECs mission to contribute to a healthier, more vibrant community by providing exceptional parks,
open spaces and recreational experiences for all of East Baton Rouge Parish.

This was one of the more popular of the press releases I wrote for BREC. For one, it was a ribbon
cutting at one of the largest BREC community parks. But, more importantly, it was the ribbon
cutting for something new to the state of Louisiana, an Xccent Motion Wellness System, or a
playground for adults. This new amenity was to appeal to BRECs older audience members that
would use this new equipment. This press release can also be viewed at the following links:
