curriculum standards. The goal of our lessons is to incorporate new English vocabulary,
sentence structures and phrases into each theme based lesson. We are currently developing
a more structured curriculum.
Instructional Objectives: After completing this Countries lesson, The students will be
able to:
Recite the name of each Country when shown the Countries flag.
Instructional Procedures:
Lesson Introduction: I will introduce this lesson by first reviewing the Continents
and asking the students where we live. I will then explain that Japan is a Country
and each Continent has many Countries. We will have a brief discussion about other
Countries the students know. I will then introduce the names of each Country using
flash cards and having the students repeat the names.
Lesson Activities: During the lesson we will learn the names of each Country and
their flags. We will talk about the sizes of each Country and different shapes (eg.
Italy looks like a boot). We will play a Bingo game to help the students remember the
Country flags and Continent shapes. We will also play a game using the large
laminated Continent cards with Country flags on it, I will place each Continent
around the classroom as if the classroom floor is a world map. I will tell the kids to
find each Country, and the kids will all gather and stand by the Country.
Lesson Closure: At the end of the lesson I will give the students a writing worksheet
Where is the Country, to help them remember where the Countries are located.
