6-G1.2.5 Locate and use information from Geographic

Information Systems(GIS) and satellite remote sensing to answer
geographic questions.

Knowledge
(K)

Understand (U)

The Geographic
Information
System is a
system that
refers to all
different types
of geographic
material. (e.g.
Latitude,
Longitude, Zip
Codes,Topograp
hy,
Cartography,
and many
more). This
information can
be used to
make
connections to
geography in
many ways.
The amount of
information is
so broad that it
will be
important for
students to
know how to
explore the
information
system for
future
references.
Satellite
Remote
Sensing uses
satellite
technology to
observe
geography from
above mainly

Students will
understand that they
can discover useful
information about
geography and how to
make use out of the
information they find
from the GIS and
satellite sensing. They
will understand how to
use the information
they find to answer
geographic questions.

their
knowledge of
this GLCE by
using the GIS

answer
random
geographic

assignment
will be
designed to
explore
multiple
aspects of
geography so
students will
be able to
demonstrate
their
knowledge of
the GIS and
satellite
remote

how to locate
the
information.

There are
multiple factors
that go into the
distribution of
the population.
Some are
based on
physical
conditions such
as the climate
or the geology
of the land,
while others are
more socioeconomic, and
rely on certain
types of
industries or

Maps are often
