While searching through the census website for San Bernardino County, I noticed
under the people quick facts that 51.7% of population was Hispanic or Latino. I also
noticed that whites make up 30.6%. The lowest percentage of people who lived in the San
Bernardino County were Native Americans or Pacific Islander.
After reading the Race vs. Ethnicity vs. Culture document, I would define race as
something that the world has created to distinguish one from another such as your skin
color. I would also define ethnicity as a group of people who are from the same origin or
who speak the same language and is able to relate to one another. Culture is defined by
peoples beliefs, values, and the way in which people live their lives on a daily basis and
how they teach from generations to the next.
In the census website, I noticed that there were a larger population in women
living in the San Bernardino County than men. Women were 50.2% compared to men
who were 49.8%. There was a larger population of people who were the ages between 25
to 34 years old living, followed by ages 45 to 54 years old living in the San Bernardino
County.
Looking at the types of households, I noticed that there are 76.1% of family
households compared to 23.9% nonfamily households. There is also a 16.4% of females
where no husband is present and there is 7.3% where there are male households with no
wife present. These types of household could be health related outcomes because in the
single parent homes, there is probably no time to take their children out and exercise
because he or she is working to make ends meet. It can also be a health related outcome
because there is no enough income to afford healthy types of foods.
